they grew up together, two sets of lonely siblings (brother and sister, brother and sister) sent away from families that were far too disengaged. both sets of siblings meet as children, and they’re similarities drew them closer together than anyone would have expected. no one ever thought they would be quite so dependent on each other.
there is nothing like a bond forged out of need, but as the four of them grow older, feelings begin to change. the two eldest start a dangerous game of tiptoeing and wanting. and it all goes horribly south during their last summer together.
away from their younger siblings, they turn to late nights and meaningless sex. drugs and alcohol accompany their encounters, and they try not to look each other in the eye during the daylight. they think it’s an outlet for these feelings they’ve repressed for too many years. it’s not a simple fix, but, for the summer, it seems to work.
it’s only when the days grow colder does reality set in. awkwardness follows the cold weather, and neither of them really know were they stand with the other. they struggle home, conflicted and cowardly. it wasn’t a solution, but a catalyst throwing them both closer to, and further from, their actual feelings.
but where they were weak, their young siblings were not. by their return the younger pair have recently been engaged, and are currently in the midst of planning a spring wedding.
with feelings still bubbling under the surface, how the fuck are they meant to deal with this?
